Hello all…

I’m looking for riding company on a trip to Newfoundland… here are my tentative plans.

1. Day 1 – Tuesday July 29, 2008 – leave after work, say 7pm, ride from Toronto to Montreal (550 km)
2. Day 2 – Wednesday July 30 – ride east (destination TBN) – e.g. Grand Falls, New Brunswick (~ 600 km)
3. Day 3 – Thursday July 31 – ride east to Halifax, spend the night in Halifax (~ 600 km)
4. Day 4 - Friday August 1 – ride from Halifax to North Sydney (~ 400 km), take the 5pm ferry from North Sydney to Port Aux Basques, Newfoundland, arrive there midnight, spend the night at Port Aux Basques
5. Day 5 – Saturday August 2 – Newfoundland – Port Aux Basques to South Brook (~ 400 km)
6. Day 6 – Sunday August 3 – Newfoundland – spend the night in St. John’s (~ 500 km)
7. Day 7 – Monday August 4 – Newfoundland – spend the day in St. John’s, take the ferry at midnight from Argentia to North Sydney (~ 140 km)
Depending on how we feel and on weather conditions, we can ride to Gros Morne National Park in Newfoundland, i.e. change itinerary for days 5, 6 and 7, while still getting on the ferry at the end of day 7 (Monday August 4, midnight back to North Sydney).
8. Day 8 – Tuesday August 5 – 2pm – arrive in North Sydney, ride to Pleasant Bay Nova Scotia (~ 200 km)
9. Day 9 – Thursday August 6 – to Moncton, New Brunswick (~ 500 km straight or more if via PEI)
10. Day 10 – Friday August 7 – to Gaspe (~ 750 km)
11. Day 11 – Saturday August 8 – ride to Quebec City (~ 700 km)
12. Day 12 – Sunday August 9 – back to Toronto (~ 850 km)

Other details:
- With the exception of day 1, I don’t plan to do any riding at night
- I ride a k1200s – I’m a mature rider in my 30s. I just rode for 10k to the west coast
- My girlfriend will join me for days 4 through 8. She has a conference to attend in Halifax so will fly there and meet me there, and do the Newfoundland trip as a pillion
- The plan is to stay in motels throughout the trip
- Fairly flexible wrt route, depending on how we feel and on weather conditions (e.g. Gros Morne in Newfoundland, PEI, Gaspe, etc.)
- Approximate mileage for trip: 5,500 km – 7,000 km depending on routes taken
- Day will typically start at 9:30 – 10:00 AM and we’ll be off the road by 8:00 PM

Geez Phil, got enough vacation days?

Wow man, I'd love to come along but I'm otherwise indisposed. Sounds like a rad trip though. My jealousy is yours good sir.

I wish I had that much vacation time.
I'm off to Vancouver next week, but I have to fly since I only have a week for the whole trip.

I'd ride to the ocean with you but you'd leaving about 3 weeks too early!

Pre-book the Port aux Basque hotel (if you havn't thought of doing it already). If a ferry is delayed they book up really fast cause no one will drive @ night. Watch for police when you get off the boat, they look for speeders who are trying to stay ahead of the crowd.

Have a good trip, I would love to go but no time & family would kill me fornot stopping for @ least a couple of days. :-)

Trip Cancelled due to work committments. Newfoundland will have to wait for another year..
