Looks great Rory! sooooooo............when can I borrow it? lol j/kToungue
Hey Rory, did you have as much hassles as I did in bringing it across the border? I'm assuming this is the Harbor Freight unit?
yun, no hassles crossing the border, i told them i 2 boxes of parts for a trailer, they charged me the tax without a wink, LOL.... yes it is the HF unit ... it has a vin number on it, did you guys get it registered with the vin or home built? just curious, since i have yet to go and fill out the forms for it to get the plate...
No hassles here: I said 'trailer parts', they said 'go ahead'. No taxes either, I was under my limit for the weekend.
Chiller, tear off that VIN number plate and register it as homebuilt. If you try to use the VIN you'll have to explain how you got it across the border without all the proper documentation.
There's no inspection and a one-time charge of $35. Could not be easier.

is there more required then a vin number and your blue form for paying taxes? 'cuz i do have the blue form that i paid taxes on it ... just curious about this ...

according to ins. co there is no coverage for anything that happens with home built trailers, is that what you guys got to for your ins? i'm with TD monnex.
I believe that you'll need more than a number and a tax form. Just like bringing in a bike or a car from the States, there are things you need to do at the border to do it legally. A box of parts is not the same as a vehicle, and it doesn't have a VIN.
I don't know that there's anything special regarding insurance. I've got a couple of trailers, registered as homebuilts, that I've been towing around for years.

k was just curious on the insurance side, i called monnex just to see what the regs are on home built trailers and there stand on it is that if its home built its not covered for anything, the only thing they cover is liability on it when its attached otherwise, if stuff falls off of it its not covered your responsible, if it becomes detached while driving u're liable, etc. ... so basically when towing the bike there's no coverage for it being on the trailer as i understand it ...
