The other day I was at the top of Victoria Park & Denison. I'm sitting at a red light, there's a large truck behind me and the bloody light just won't change. I'm sittling on the line, reving the $h!t out of my engine, and still the light just won't change. It passed me 3 times. I couldn't even run it because of the constant flow of cars. TickedTickedTicked

Luckily the truck was there, so I flagged him to come closer, while I moved ahead of the line...sure enough the light finally changes.

Who's got some tricks for us bikers?
I haven't found any tricks to get around this one, so if anyone know of any tricks, let us know.

The following does not work
1) reve the hell out of your bike
2) kill and restart the bike
3) lower the kickstand
4) jumping up and down on the bike

An electro magnetic / regular magnetic suppose to work. Never tried it.

Now, I usually dismount my bike and press the pedestrian button, after waiting for 30 seconds and see no car coming.

There is suppose to be number we can all in Toronto to have them adjust the sensitivity of these sensor to pick up bikes.
But I can't remember the number. Sad
The lights right by my house never turn green for me. So if it's early in the morning or late at night i just ride up the side walk and press the button. Im too lazy to get off my bike and run over to press the button. But if its during the day i just wait for another car to come by.
ushually this trick works for me better at night or morning but will work most of the time you flick you highbeams on and off and the light shold turn yellow shortly hope that helps yea.
Make sure you stop over the craks on the road that are the sensors. Then:

1) blip the STARTER. The big magnetic charge of teh motor usually trips it.

2) Push the crosswalk button. Looks ghey, but at least you are safe.

3) Turn right, make a U-turn. This is the legal friendly way

4) pull through when safe. Technically only legal after 10 mins. If you know the light wont change, then power to you.

I find that some cars like to give lots of space at lights (why not on the road?) ask them to pull forward more and explain to them why (actually get off and talk to them). This sometimes helps. I have also encountered trucks that have been raised so high then wont trip it either.

Keep an eye out in some parts of Toronto,,,there is actually a left turn lane for bucycles. This is an extra-sensative spot that MC cant trip as well. I tested one the other day when there were no cars around. Keeps the law happy.

WOW... wait.. back it up... Why would you even think reving the engine had anything to do with the lights?

And flicking the head lights only work if you see a senor above the lights... almost looks like a little mini scanner, usually only found at major intersections
Reving the bike is suppose to create a greater electro-magnetic field around the bike, thereby, tripping the sensor.  But it doesn't work.
Myth Busted.  Grin
"myth busted".. hilarious...
There are a few companies in the US that sell some triggers that are "supposed" to get the traffic lights to switch. The ones that come to mind are Touratech and Aerostich. There are others besides these - check any riders magazine.

.. pushing the pedestrian button is cheaper.... and faster....
Yeah, I bought a red light tripper. I don't know if it was one of those. It was this little ("super powerful")magnet that you stick under the frame, or centre stand. I tried some notorious light and the only thing I tripped was a switch that makes you invisible. This thing couldn't even trip a toddler.

Ahahaha, I remember you showing that to us one maintenance day. I meant to ask you if it worked. Now we know.
a few things that i do in these cases...,

1. hit the pedestrian walk button
2. get the guy behind you to pull up (which you did)
3. put the kick stand down and let the bike idle on the kick stand, this has worked surprisingly at a few of the stops
4. hang a right and make a u turn...

I think this was just a coincidence. Pokeit Grin

actually no it wasn't these were notorious lights in the area and on 2 of the 6, putting the side stand down and sitting on the bike worked to set them off...that surprised me, i had read about it on the stn board...
How the vehicle "detection" mechanism works in York Region:

http://www.region.york.on.ca/Services/Ro...nals.htm#3

Often noticed that lights for side streets start to signal a change (pedestrian light flashes) when a car approaches to turn right, but then stop flashing when the car negotiates the turn or rolls away.

Anyone tried it?
